Yesterday was the Sunday Market in Amsterdam, but this time I shared a space with my baker friends {extraordinaire} Ken & Jur of American Baking Company. Also participating was our friend C; selling organic plants & cut flowers. Great crowds, good sales for all &….mojitos ;)

If you happen to be around the first Sunday of every month, we’ll be there so come by & say hello!

On Saturday I turned another year older :) I was treated to dinner out with Hans & 2 friends- yummy food & too much alcohol…

Sunday we had some folks over to celebrate Thanksgiving. It was a nice mix of American, Canadian, Indian & Dutch friends! It was entirely vegetarian & while I usually steer away from being preachy about not eating meat & fish, I am going to put this out there: Thanksgiving is still awesome without turkey!

We had roasted pumpkin-thyme turnovers, garlic mashed potatoes, Vietnamese lemongrass & chili string beans, ginger roasted tofu with stuffing, penne with fontina, vegan spinach dip, salad, braised sprouts, spicy lentils, pumpkin pie, pecan pie & banana pudding. Granted, the majority of guests were vegetarians, but the meat eaters were quite happy, too.

It’s always a bit strange not to be in the US for the holiday, but since it’s so close to Christmas & we usually do our big travel then, the celebration is typically on the weekend before. It’s nice to be with other Americans who might feel a bit homesick.

However you spend yours I hope it’s lovely. Best wishes! xx

Thankfully the weather has been relatively nice lately. No torrential rain for a while & for that I am grateful. The sun has been making an appearance somewhat frequently, Little Man & I credit our indoor glitter sun hanging in our front window for that ;)

Halloween is not really celebrated here, but every year expats from North American figure out ways to do so! Last year we went to a big party organized by IWCU. This year Little Man & I decorated our window with leaves, made a very long paper chain of red & orange for the dining room, picked out pumpkins & pomegranates for the table. He’s been a bit obsessed with a particular black & white striped shirt lately, transforming himself into a zebra {& trust me- he commits to a character}. I sewed up a tail & ears for him to wear but now apparently, he’s a cat. Today we will have a few of his little friends over to celebrate. I’m going to make veggie chili, peanut butter/chocolate covered cookies & my friends Ken & JurĀ  {bakers extraordinaire!} were sweet enough to gift us with some of their amazing cupcakes.

Last night I went out with some friends to Theater Kikker festival in town. It was a collection of various theater pieces- we saw the headliner performance: Thuiskomst. Strange to sit through a play that was originally written in English but translated & performed in Dutch- it was quite good but a little frustrating that one of the characters spoke crazy fast, so I missed chunks of what he was saying.

There was also a very tiny room where you could go for a private 3 minute performance by 2 women & it’s different for every person. It was so beautiful! {I am realizing that there is no way I can make that sentence not sound a little racy…}

Coming up in November MB’s husband will be visiting for a week {yay!}, I’m turning another year older, we are celebrating Thanksgiving vegetarian style, hosting Sinter Klaas at our house with Hans’ family, planning a trip to the states for mid December, I’m sewing like a madwoman for the market in Amsterdam December 12th, getting orders out & in between it all, continuing to shuffle never-ending paperwork for various things.

So there is a little catchup. Nothing earth-shattering, I’m afraid!

Enjoy the day…

Life over here has been *busy*.

But the good news is that everyone is healthy, happy & generally okay!

I will be selling at a fairly large market in Amsterdam come December 12th, so it’s been a mad dash to get ready.

Last weekend my dearest friend & I stole away to Antwerp for a few days. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world & we enjoyed every minute! Walk*Sit*Eat*Drink*Repeat…

{we went to the Stephen Jones exhibit at the MOMU- crazy cool}

{Madonna everywhere. Madonna plus graffiti: even better! bliss}
