random cool

A few months ago I sent a package of crocheted Granny Squares to a woman in Texas who is heading a wonderful project called Share a Square. For the past year she has been collecting thousands of Granny Squares from around the world to put together beautiful afghans for children diagnosed with cancer who attend a special camp every summer. Many of the kids are undergoing treatment while at camp and are at different stages of the disease. People crochet squares and attach a little note to each with a safety pin with a message and where they are from. Packages of 48 random squares are then distributed out to volunteers who put them together to complete the afghans. Then they send them back to Texas. The link highlighted above shows some finished ones.
I woke up this morning to find an email from a flickr/blog buddy of mine. We became contacts because we’re both Crafty-Indie girls and like each other’s work. She and her mom are 2 of the volunteers putting afghans together. Out of thousands of squares, how awesome is this:

In her packet was one that I did! So random. I’m in Europe and (I’m pretty sure) she’s in the States. This really made my day in a wonderful but weird way. Small world!
That’s so weird! It really is a small world.
Just like Chandra said – small world! That’s a really great project to participate in! You know I think you’re a neat person, but I’m saying it again. :)
I wish you lived near me so that some of that talent could rub off. I can’t sew buttons, let alone crochet things.
Anyway, that would have made my day, too.
Just goes to show this world is not as big as we all imagine it is!
That’s too cool!
[...] so happy I found it. What a great experience! I have pleasant memories of receiving my box and connections made across the world. I know that with my limited time I wasn’t able to contribute as much as I [...]
